There were some rare examples of SS guards who did not flee from the approaching Allied armies. Instead, they took care of sick prisoners and delivered food and medicine.

However, there were many guards who were cruel and merciless until the very end. People's courts were created to try them.
These guards were accused of abuse, torture, and murders beyond their orders. The survivors had plenty of evidence against them.
