What Really Happened to the Motley Crue 'Final' Tour ... That Made Fans Angry! 😱

Mötley Crüe promised their fans something very simple, and it was something that could have turned their fanbase against them. That promise was a farewell. They even signed a legally binding agreement stating they would not tour under the name Mötley Crüe after 2015. It was convincing, it was official, and it was very much Mötley Crüe.

Then, four years later, something happened. They came back. So what went wrong? In 2014, the band announced their final tour.

It was not framed as a brief break or a simple pause. They signed a formal cessation agreement that prohibited the group from performing any tours after the end of 2015. They were serious, or at least serious enough to sign official paperwork. The final show was scheduled for New Year’s Eve 2015 in Los Angeles.

The goodbye became a massive and spectacular production. There were fireworks, explosions, Tommy Lee’s ridiculous drum kit, and Nikki Sixx doing things with his bass guitar that likely required a fire inspector’s intervention. Eventually, the final show took place. Mötley Crüe disappeared for a while.

Then something unexpected happened. “The Dirt,” the band’s 2019 biopic on Netflix, introduced Mötley Crüe’s raucous history to an entirely new generation. Suddenly, younger fans began discovering the band. Streaming numbers increased, interest exploded, and fans started asking a question no one had anticipated.

Why aren’t these guys playing together? Apparently, the answer was becoming increasingly difficult to defend. Then came the announcement. Mötley Crüe was back.

In November 2019, the band announced that the old touring agreement had effectively been voided, explaining that a new generation of fans was demanding their return. They even celebrated by literally blowing up the contract. Because apparently, if you are going to break a retirement agreement, you might as well use explosives. But the film did not magically fix everything.

The band’s internal tensions eventually became public, especially after guitarist Mick Mars retired from touring and later entered a legal dispute with the group over business records and financial interests. That is when the fairy-tale goodbye began to look very different. The original retirement was not necessarily a hoax. At the time, it genuinely seemed like the end.

But rock bands have a problem. They miss not only the stage but also the money, the adrenaline, the identity, and sometimes they miss being Mötley Crüe. The band said goodbye, then Netflix came along, then fans knocked on the door, then the contract exploded. Suddenly, the chapter that was supposed to be the last became the beginning of something else.

So here is the question. Was Mötley Crüe’s farewell a lie from the start? How do you feel about bands that do this? Rock and roll stories are the core of this channel.
